I think I'll just pay cash

What I did on my Thanksgiving holiday

Actually, I had a great holiday. We were able to visit both sets of parents, spend time with brothers/sisters/various other relatives, eat a lot, do some Christmas shopping, and just generally have a good time. However, I was ready to get back to the old routine today, and it was good and quiet around the house today.

Oh, and we saw Goblet of Fire, too. To those of you who've seen it and were confused, I simply say, "READ THE BOOK." There were so many good details and subplots that got glossed over, were left unexplained, or were simply left out. I know they can't put everything in the movie, but still...

Demon Dog Dies

Sam, the tiny dog whose hairless body and crooked teeth earned him a reputation as the World's Ugliest Dog, has died.
The pooch was 14 years old. His owner said she initially was terrified of Sam when she agreed to take him in as a rescue dog six years ago on a 48-hour trial basis. Although she fell in love with him, his appearance repulsed her then-boyfriend and prompted the man to break up with her. At least that's what he told her.

Dang it!

I missed "Lost" and "Survivor" last week. Totally forgot about it being Wednesday and Thursday nights, since the holiday made it seem like a week of Saturdays. My dear sister had a tape of "Lost," but I didn't get to watch it while I was there.
I read the recap on the website but it just wasn't the same...

Pat Morita

Actor Pat Morita, Mr. Miyagi in 'The Karate Kid', has died. He was 73. He was also well-known for his role as Arnold on "Happy Days."

Born in northern California on June 28, 1932, the son of migrant fruit pickers, Morita spent most of his early years in the hospital with spinal tuberculosis. He later recovered only to be sent to a Japanese-American internment camp in Arizona during World War II.

"Forever my Sensei," Ralph Macchio said in a statement released after Morita's death.

Thanksgiving History

Food for thought

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside of each and every person. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all...

One is evil; it is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is good; it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith".

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his
grandfather, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied....."The one you feed."

Merry Thanksgivoween

'Tis the season for buying Halloween decorations on clearance, groceries for Thanksgiving dinner, and Christmas presents ALL IN ONE WAL-MART SHOPPING CART!
It's heartwarming to know that everyone is so excited about celebrating Christ's birth that they want to extend the season all the way back to October. That is why they're doing it, right?

A funny word, if you think about it...

A thought...or two

Late at night, kids and hubby (what a stupid word) in bed. It's quiet in the house--no Cartoon Network or Fox News or anything on TV, the only sounds coming from the aquarium that needs topping off and tomorrow's school uniforms in the dryer. I am exhausted and yet here I sit at the computer, playing around with a blog that will hopefully be a positive creative outlet for me.

Is it any wonder I wake up sleepy every day, when I stay up far too long because, in those quiet late nights, I somehow feel like I can simply be myself and not "Mommy" or "Wife" or whatever somebody needs me to be?

This is why I dropped out of journalism when I was in college: aspiring writers who are so absorbed in themselves and take themselves so seriously they feel they OWE IT TO THE WORLD to make their thoughts, their opinions, their FEELINGS (sniff) known. However, I'm just writing this for the sake of getting some crap off my chest. Ick, that's a disgusting mental picture.

So there.

Hello world

Nothing major to say, just wanted to see if I can actually keep up a blog that would be worth reading.
So consider this Day 1.
